Beauty vs Health in Products

We live in a world that is full of products and an array of chemicals, and as hairstylists we are always aware that the industry is full of toxic chemicals.

The question is, when the average person looks at the back of the shampoo bottle, or has the colour applied to their hair, how do they know what a bad chemical is, and what is good for their hair?

Some of the products everyone should be very aware of are:

  • Anything that uses the word ‘Ammonia’
  • PPD
  • PTD
  • Resorcinol
  • Thioglycolate
  • Parabens
  • Lauryl Sulphate

Some of the side effects of these products include, they can make hair brittle and dry,  result in a dry scalp and generally damage people’s hair.  Most of the popular commercial brands are guilty of using ingredients that, initially, give hair that ‘wow factor’, but eventually will strip hair of moisture, breakdown hair proteins and leading to severe damage.

At Claire Hair Boutique in Mandurah, we recently discovered the perfect product that is more natural and organic and won’t leave you with damaged hair or health issues.

Natulique (LINK) is an amazing product that focuses on one concept; to use as many certified organic ingredients in their hair care and colours, which enables us as your hair stylist to colour your hair with beautiful products, but that is a safer and more sustainable alternative, with fewer chemicals.

Our own Salon director Claire is passionate about looking after your hair, and she knows that by using Natulique, she is colouring your hair with products that aren’t going to damage your hair in the long-term.  Claire was excited to discover Natulique, but also aware that marketing can be very deceiving, so did her own research to find out more about Natulique!

She organised for her own sister, a biochemist in the UK, to test some of the Natulique products and the results came back showing how fantastic they really are!

We are not going to mislead you, we know that you do need certain chemicals to make the colour do what it needs to do, it’s important you still look fantastic!  However it’s the levels of these ingredients that is vitally important.

If you are a salon owner and are concerned about the ingredients in your products, you need to ask your supplier for this information, it’s a legal obligation for them to provide it.   This is the same with customers asking their hairstylists about the products going on their hair.
